Ho Chi Minh City University of Natural Resources and Environment (HCMUNRE) is a public university under the Ministry of Agriculture and Environment of Vietnam and meets the national standards for higher education institutions. Its mission is to develop high-quality human resources in the field of natural resources and the environment at undergraduate and postgraduate levels for central and local government agencies and businesses across the country.
Education
Guided by its educational philosophy of “Holistic Education – Sustainable Development – International Integration”, the University aims to become a leading university in the field of natural resources and the environment. It currently serves more than 10,000 students and learners in 20 undergraduate programs across 10 fields: Earth Sciences; Natural Resources and Environmental Management; Business; Computing; Information Technology; Chemical, Materials, Metallurgical and Environmental Technology; Industrial Management; Geological, Geophysical and Geodetic Engineering; Architecture and Planning; and Construction.
Master’s education began in 2018 with two programs, Land Management and Environmental Engineering. The University now offers 8 master’s programs:

- Business Administration
Under the motto “Quality – Creativity – Efficiency”, programs are designed to be interdisciplinary and transdisciplinary, helping learners build professional expertise and well-rounded career skills.
Facilities
As an applied-research-oriented university, HCMUNRE has invested in modern facilities for teaching, learning and research: 7 laboratories, 7 practice rooms and 4 field stations and experimental gardens. Highlights include the Environmental Laboratory (ISO/IEC 17025 certified), the Meteorological Observation Garden, the Weather Forecasting Simulation Room and more than 200 instruments for surveying and mapping practice.
In line with its 2021–2025 plan and vision to 2035, the University continues to upgrade the 236B Le Van Sy campus for teaching, research and international relations, and uses the Dong Nai campus for research, fieldwork and internships. Construction of the Hiep Phuoc campus in Ho Chi Minh City began in 2022; phase 1 was completed and put into operation in 2025.
Research and International Cooperation
Research and technology transfer are core tasks of the University. From 2016 to 2025, research has followed an interdisciplinary, practice-oriented approach aligned with sustainable development. Key areas include natural resources and the environment, new energy, waste management and treatment, hydro-meteorology and climate change, land management, geodesy and cartography, water resources, and IT applications in natural resources and the environment.
The University has carried out hundreds of research projects at various levels, published widely in national and international journals, and regularly organizes and takes part in national and international scientific conferences.
HCMUNRE has signed many memoranda of understanding (MOUs) with research institutes, universities and businesses in Vietnam and abroad, supporting joint training, academic exchange, research and innovation. Many international cooperation projects have been implemented, strengthening the quality and reputation of the University.
Our People
Most of our lecturers graduated from reputable universities and institutes in Vietnam and abroad; more than 10% are professors, associate professors, PhD holders and experts in natural resources and the environment. They work closely with students in their studies, research and first steps into professional practice.
